About the Artist

Hi! I'm Mackenzie Kincaid; you can call me Mac. I’m an independent artist working in a variety of mediums, from sculpting and 3D modeling to digital illustration and printmaking. I've spent my life digging gleefully into all kinds of creating, making, fabricating, and learning, and I'm so happy to be pulling all of those explorations together into my artistic practice today and the products I'm bringing you here.

My inspiration for Strange Species comes from my love of both the natural world and the weird and fantastical. I love taking something real that we're all familiar with, like a 3D scan of an animal’s skull, and turning it into something that’s perhaps come from a fantasy land a step away from our own.

I also collect real bones, but there are conservation issues that have to be wrestled with as a consumer in the "Vulture Culture" lifestyle. One of my favorite things about what I do with 3D printing is not just that I can create creatures that don't exist in our world, or put a fantastical spin on actual bones, but also that I can provide people with specimens for their collections that are both unusual conversation pieces and guilt-free to own. You don't have to worry about the provenance, origin, and ethical collection of a skull made from resin.

This is a one-person enterprise; everything you buy at Strange Species comes directly from my tiny at-home workshop, and not from third parties or drop shippers. I can't tell you how much I appreciate each and every customer who comes by to support the work I'm doing and give me opportunities to keep creating and growing as an artist.
