The rabbit-y figure mirrored on this mug is a Mountain Hare (Lepus timidus), as depicted in 1821 by illustrator Edouard d'Alton. This mug was very much inspired by Richard Adam's literary classic Watership Down, whose prologue creation story includes this instruction from to the Prince of Rabbits:

All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

The hare in this illustration straddles this life and death divide: the skeleton speaks of death, while the animal's silhouette is posed in an attitude of cautious action. It's a beautiful study of animal anatomy and osteology and the perfect gift for rabbit enthusiasts and breeders, lagomorph biologists, and vulture culturists. (And I do know that rabbits and hares are not the same thing, but we're just going with it, okay?)

The sturdy 11 ounce frosted glass mug lends the illustration a dreamy vintage softness on the mug's exterior, which shows up stronger and more saturated through the clear side of the mug's interior. Please note that while forced perspective may make the mug look as if it has slanted walls in some of the pictures, it is in fact a straight-sided mug! Please refer to the video for the most detailed view of this item.

Hand washing is recommended; the high heat of dishwashers can cause designs applied to dishware to fade over time, so hand washing will help keep your mug looking great long-term.
