Unsettlingly Large Common Vampire Bat Skull
Unsettlingly Large Common Vampire Bat Skull
The perfect addition to your cabinet of curiosities, assemblage of oddities, or natural history collection, this skull of a Common Vampire Bat (Desmodus rotundus) is larger than life. Literally.
This skull been greatly enlarged for display and for study, and individually 3D printed in durable resin. The resulting specimen is sharply detailed, faithfully reproduced, and a beautiful art object on its own. It comes with a small display card with a vintage vampire bat illustration on the back, and on the front an image showing how large the bat's skull is in life size.
This perfectly unusual piece will add a little mystery to any bone collection, and makes a great gift for anyone interested in science, anatomy, Vulture Culture, and everything Goth.
The vampire bat is particularly renowned for its eating habits -- the three species of vampire bats are the only mammals that subsist entirely on blood -- and this specimen brings their spooky qualities to the forefront, from a skull shape reminiscent of Nosferatu to the wickedly pointed teeth scaled up to an intimidating size. My favorite little feature of this skull is on the mandible, just behind the lower front teeth, where there are sizeable divots in the bone to make room for the points of the sharp upper incisors!
